Tungsten Powder Price Stabilizes on Firm Cost of Tungsten Raw Materials

China’s ammonium paratungstate (APT) and tungsten powder prices maintain stability on January 17, 2023 mainly because the overall market transactions are quiet as the holidays approach and the logistics are suspended. 

The price of tungsten concentrate is consolidating at a high level of $18,153.8/ton and mining companies are willing to stand up for the price. With equipment maintenance, workers on holiday and the weakening of logistics capacity, market liquidity is poor. 

The price of ammonium paratungstate (APT) is temporarily stable at around $309.4/mtu. Smelters are more bullish despite downstream terminals have not responded before the festival. Market purchases and sales have slowed down, and trading is light.

Tungsten powder price stands around $41.5/kg. The main driving force is the firm cost of tungsten raw materials. The enthusiasm for consumption of cemented carbide is an important reference item. Most insiders will wait and see the clarity of the news after the festival.

On the macro front, the central bank pointed out that China's inflation level will remain moderate in 2023, but at the same time, attention should also be paid to the potential for a rebound in inflation. In the short term, inflationary pressures are controllable; in the medium and long term, uncertainties in price trends still exist, including the lagging effect of money supply on prices, aggregate demand tends to heat up, and imported pressures.
