AM Ventures Invests €2.5 Million in Tungsten, Stainless Steel 3D Printing

3D printing developer Headmade Materials has secured another €2.5 million in funding for 3D printing on tungsten, stainless steel, and more, bringing its total funding to €10.2 million. The company's Series A funding was invested by AM Ventures, an investor in printing startups, and also backed by existing shareholder btov Industrial Technology Fund.

With funding from its investors and the European Innovation Council (EIC), Headmade Materials said it now intends to begin "extensive expansion" of its manufacturing capabilities, product portfolio, and international sales force.

Arno Held, Managing Director of AM Ventures, said, "We have been observing Headmade Materials for some time and have been impressed with the company's development over the past few years. The huge range of applications for the technology and the successful projects carried out by Christian Fischer and Christian Staudigel's team approve this."

Spun off from the Das Kunststoff-Zentrum (SKZ) Institute in 2019 by co-founders Christian Staudigel and Christian Fischer, Headmade Materials' products revolve around its proprietary ColdMetalFusion technology.

According to Headmade Materials, a number of "industry leaders" are now implementing the technology in their workflows after successful deployments in pilot projects.

The company was raised through a Series A round led by AM Ventures, a serial investor with a proven track record of helping emerging technologies translate into commercial success. The firm currently has a portfolio of 15 companies, but it has also made considerable investments elsewhere, helping many startups become stalwarts of the 3D printing industry.

Last year, AM Ventures also established a €100 million venture capital fund, and it currently provides seed funding of €500,000 to €3 million to young companies it sees as promising as a way to help get their businesses off the ground.

Headmade Materials' fundraising is also supported by btov, an investor that focuses not only on printing but also supports the development of companies that develop robotics, Industry 4.0, IoT, or other advanced technologies.

Headmade Materials said it will strengthen its position in 3D printing of metals such as tungsten and stainless steel. The company also plans to expand the scope of its technology by increasing the production of its proprietary raw materials and working with commercial partners to introduce new alloys and improved hardware.
