Xihuashan Tungsten Mine History (II)

After founding of New China, Gannan established nine state-owned distributed mine, 16 local state operated mine and 20 collective pithead. It becomes the main tungsten raw material birthplace in the world. In the meantime, geologist verify 106 mineral area with tungsten reserve, accumulated reserve is 1.17 million ton, ranks the second place in the world. High quality tungsten concentrate reserve ranks the first in China.

Xihuashan Tungsten Mine also enters a prosperous development period. In 1953, Xihuashan started large scale geological exploration. In 1954, national operating established factory. In 1956, they completed technical design and started construction. In October 1959, medium scale non-ferrous metal mine with daily production capacity 2250 ton was established.

In 1970, by constant technique transformation, daily production capacity is upgraded to over 3000 ton. Xihuashan has been the leader flagship of tungsten. It has made outstanding contribution to exporting foreign exchange earning and developing special steel industry.

Till 1988, Xihuashan Tungsten Mine had been explored for 80 years. The resource is scarce, exploration cost is added. International tungsten market price is sluggish, Xihuashan kept being deficient for years. After 15 years, it declared its bankruptcy. To date, Xihuashan Tungsten Mine stands still in Gannan. It started national grade mineral park construction in 2014.
