Yttrium Tungsten Electrode Preparation by Doping

Tungsten electrode material is one of the key materials used in tungsten inert gas protection welding and plasma technology. With the development of high and new technology, the properties of tungsten electrodes are becoming higher and higher in the fields of mechanical electronics, petroleum, chemical, aerospace, ship, atomic energy and other fields. The tungsten yttrium electrode has long life, long arc beam and compression. It is popular because of its large degree and good arc performance.

At present, the main method of making tungsten yttrium electrode at home and abroad is to make the tungsten yttrium coated powder by the evaporation pot. The difficulty is that the tungsten yttrium coating powder is not uniform because of the defects of the equipment itself. This paper mainly introduces a manufacturing method of yttrium electrode, and the preparation of yttrium tungsten yttrium electrode is more uniform. The powder can improve the properties of tungsten yttrium electrode, increase the penetration depth in welding, and effectively reduce the breaking frequency.

(1) Yttrium nitrate solution, with a concentration of 0.8 ~ 1.8g/ml, was evenly mixed into the solid raw material ammonium parotungstate (APT) or tungsten trioxide (WO3) by spray doping, and the tungsten yttrium coating powder was heated and dried at 100~150°C. The amount of the yttrium nitrate solution and the solid raw material ammonium para tungstate (APT) were used. The weight ratio of T or tungsten trioxide (WO3) is 1: 12~15.

(2) Yttrium tungsten yttrium powder was prepared by two times reduction at 500~540°C and 600~970°C. The volume of yttrium yttrium billet was 12 * 1 x 400mm3, the volume of powder was 630 ~ 750g, and then sintered at 1100~1250°C for 40 minutes, then the tungsten yttrium strip was obtained by high temperature sintering.

(3) The sintered billet was processed by rotary forging and chain pulling to make several electrodes of Φ6.5mm, Φ3.2mm, Φ2.4mm, Φ2.0mm, Φ1.6mm and Φ1.0mm.

This method uses the dopant to prepare the tungsten yttrium coated powder, and the uniformity of the powder is better, and it is better for the uniform dispersion of yttrium oxide in the tungsten base. In this way, the products of yttrium oxide are evenly distributed, and the stability of the welding performance is greatly improved.
