WO3 Film Applied for Liquid Electrochromic Device

WO3 film can be used to assemble a liquid electrochromic device, which acts as an electrochromic layer material. It is reported that some scholars have assembled a liquid electrochromic device with an area of about 10cm × 8cm.  The digital photos of the assembled liquid electrochromic device are shown as below.

The scholars used two 1.5V dry cells as the power source to cycle the device between a blue coloring state and a transparent bleaching state. The response time of the device is fast, about 4 minutes. Moreover, the device can still have a good color bleaching effect after being cycled 500 times. However, as the number of cycles increases, there is dendritic precipitation inside the device, so at the same drive voltage, the device requires longer response times to achieve the same coloring-bleaching effect. That is to say, such a device is not suitable for the application of smart windows.
