Tungsten Oxide Nanoparticles

Tungsten oxide nanoparticles can be prepared by a solvothermal method. Specifically, some experts prepared WO3 nano particles by solvothermal method under the conditions of ethanol as solvent, reaction temperature of 180°C, and reaction time of 1h, 6h. And they studied the influence of reaction time on the morphology of the prepared tungsten oxide. The following figure shows the SEM of tungsten oxide nanoparticles at different times using ethanol as alcohol solvent, wherein, the reaction times of (a) and (b) were 1h and 6h, respectively.

From the figure, we can see that the synthesized nanoparticles have a particle size between 200nm and 300nm when the reaction time is 1h. And the particle size is small and uniform. When the reaction time is extended to 6h, the grain size of the synthesized nanoparticles is between 400nm and 800nm. There are two kinds of morphology of the obtained nanosphere particles. One is smoother nanosphere particles, and the other is burr-like nanosphere particles with a plurality of nanowires. It is speculated that the reaction time is too short, and the nanowires on the surface of some nanosphere particles do not have enough time to grow and agglomerate into nanosphere particles.
