Nano tungsten carbide is an important raw material for the manufacture of ultrafine cemented carbide, and it’s a kind of high performance powder material with high technology. It’s mainly used in the production of hard alloys and all kinds of hard material.
Nano tungsten powde properties have an important influence on the properties of ultrafine crystalline cemented carbides, and it's an important raw material for preparing nano tungsten carbide.
Compared with ordinary cemented carbide, nano hard alloy has higher strength, hardness and wear resistance. The quality of raw material tungsten carbide is the key to have uniform structure and excellent comprehensive properties of nano cemented carbide.

Pure tungsten carbide is brittle. If mixed with a small amount of titanium, cobalt and other metals, it can reduce brittleness. Tungsten carbide, used for steel cutting tools of titanium carbide, often mixed with titanium carbide, tantalum carbide or their mixture to improve its anti-explosion capacity. Tungsten carbide chemical property is stabile. The oxidation resistance of tungsten carbide is insufficient. When the temperature reaches 500 -800 degrees Celsius, tungsten carbide is easy to decompose into W2C and carbon in air. This problem can be solved by protecting tungsten carbide particles by using heat-resistant, antioxidant metal as a coating or bonding phase. It can also form solid carbide with TaC, TIC and other solid solutions to improve the heat resistance and oxidation resistance of tungsten carbide. Tungsten carbide heated to 2850 in Ar atmosphere remains stable and can also unaffected in high temperature nitrogen gas. Nano tungsten carbide powder is not soluble in cold water. It has strong acid resistance, high hardness and large elastic modulus. Besides high hardness, nano tungsten carbide has the characteristics of wear resistance, corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance.
Tungsten carbide applications:
1. Tungsten carbide can be used as a high speed cutting tool, kiln structure material, jet engine component, cermet material, and resistance heating element, etc.
2. Tungsten carbide can be used in the manufacture of cutting tools, wear-resistant parts, copper, cobalt, bismuth and other metal melting crucible, wear-resistant semiconductor film.
3. Tungsten carbide is can be used as superhard tool materials and wear resistant materials. It can form solid solutions with many carbides. Tungsten carbide TiC-Co carbide cutting tools have been widely used.
4. Tungsten carbide can be used as a modified additive of NbC-C and TaC-C three system carbide to reduce the sintering temperature, and maintain good properties. It can be used as aerospace materials.
