Tungsten Alloy Anvil

Upsetting die forging process is a method of processing by electric upsetting, and the anvil material is developed with the steel for valve. With the increase of the temperature of internal combustion engine gas, the anvil needs to have higher red hardness and wear resistance. 

Tungsten alloy anvil is a kind of anvil with good comprehensive properties, which can meet the requirements of different valve grades. It is the key to promote the development of upsetting die forging technology.

Tungsten alloy anvil has the following excellent performances: 
 
1. Good conductivity, and anvil itself is not overheated. 
 
2. Good high temperature hardness and strength. Anvil material is not easy to be deformed in high temperature and high pressure of upsetting. 
 
3. Good oxidation resistance and electric erosive resistance. Tungsten alloy anvil block has high red hardness and long service life.
 
Upsetting process is an intermittent periodic operation, the anvil material will bear the repeated effect of thermal fatigue stress, especially with the increase of internal combustion engine gas temperature. It also has higher requirements in performance of the valve steel material, such as high temperature resistance, abrasion resistance, etc.
 
Because of the continuous development of valve steel, the valve steel upsetting has a great relationship with the tungsten alloy as anvil block material. Tungsten alloy anvil with tungsten base, adding nickel, iron, copper or molybdenum as binder by the powder metallurgy process, has high hardness in high temperature and room temperature.
 
Experiments show that tungsten containing mass fraction in 90% - 95% has the longest service life. When tungsten content is less than that, then the tungsten alloy red hardness, abrasion resistance is not ideal; when tungsten content is higher than that, the toughness of the alloy decreases and brittleness increased, and it’s easy to be cracked, and they both would reduce service life of anvil. Therefore, using tungsten alloy anvil in electric upsetting can reduce labor intensity, improve the qualified rate of products and reduce power consumption, which has good economic benefits.
