Tungsten Resource Reserve and Distribution

Tungsten is a kind of wide distributed rare metal and accounts for 0.001% in the earth crust. More than 20 kinds of tungsten ore has been discovered, among which tungsten concentrate, tungsten scheelite and metal mixed ore has economic value for exploration.

World tungsten mine resources mainly locate in Alps-Himalayas and circum-pacific geological belt. China is between these two geological belt and has the world largest tungsten reserve. Hunan province has the largest reserve, and then Jiangxi province. According to statistics released by Ministry of Land and Resources in 2015, China has 1.9 million tons of tungsten ore reserve by 2014, the measured resources reserve is 7.351 million tons.

Tungsten scheelite accounts for 73.2% of our tungsten resource reserve, tungsten concentrate accounts for 17.2%, mixed tungsten concentrate and scheelite takes up 9.6%. However, over 80% of tungsten scheelite has geological grade less than 0.4%. Owing to fine disseminated grain size and low classification rate. most tungsten ore are difficult to recycle. As a result, tungsten concentrate is the mostly explored tungsten ore. With the consuming and exhausted of tungsten concentrate, China is improving and upgrading technology in processing tungsten scheelite to realize the sustainable development of resources.

According to feedback from 21 mineral resources evaluation work, China still has large potential in tungsten resource reserve. In old mineral area of south of Jiangxi and north of Hunan, large mine deposits have been discovered by geological department. Meanwhile, China also has breakthrough in prospecting tungsten mine in south of Anhui, Jilin, Xinjiang and Qinghai. It has a hopeful future.
