Tungsten Alloy Swaging Rod And GBU-10

Tungsten alloy swaging rod is made of tungsten alloy rod through calcinations. The normal method used in the processing are extruding, forging and sintering. After calcinations, tungsten alloy swaging rod has higher ductility, toughness and tensile strength than tungsten alloy rod, so it can be used for a longer time. GBU-10 is taking advantage of high density, high hardness and elongation of tungsten alloy swaging rod.

GBU-10 is based on the Mk 84 based on the Mk 84 general-purpose bomb, but with laser seeker and wings for guidance. Introduced into service c. 1976. Used by USAF, US Navy, US Marine Corps, RAAF and various NATO air forces.

The GBU-10 has been built in more than a half-dozen variants with different wing and fuse combinations. Weight depends on the specific configuration, ranging from 2,055 lb (934 kg) to 2,103 lb (956 kg).

GBU-10 takes advantage of characteristics of tungsten alloy swaging rod to destroy high-value targets.
