X-ray computed radiography (CR) is kind of digital imaging technology using tungsten alloy imaging plate (IP) as carrier for X-ray image. The most important characteristic of CR system is that it is made of tungsten alloy IP, the new generation for X-ray image which is different from film, carrier utilized by traditional shadowgrap. The new carrier has high sensitivity and latitude to X-ray.
But tungsten alloy IP cannot produce visible light directly after absorbing X-ray. It produces stable sub-image and store inside crystal of tungsten alloy IP after collecting analog signal of X-ray. Sub-image can be read when being scanned by photoluminescence. Conversion of signal output by tungsten alloy IP is finished. Then signal forms digital image after being dealt with by computer. The final image can be shown on fluorescent screen or printed on film, heat sensitive paper or others, besides storing in disc and system.
