Aoyama Aoyama, a visiting professor at the University of Tsukuba, Japan, recently released the results of his research at an international seminar hosted by Fukushima University. Said that the radioactive substance cesium 137 that entered the ocean in the 2011 Tokyo Electric Power Company’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident arrived on the west coast of the United States and traveled northward, passing by the Bering Sea, the northernmost part of the Pacific Ocean, returns to the northeastern coast of Japan in about 7 to 8 years.
Cesium-137 is an isotope of cesium. The nuclide symbol is 137Cs. It emits gamma rays and is highly radioactive, with a half-life of up to 30 years. If a person ingests or inhales 137Cs, the intake dose is less than 0.25Gy, which is still a safe range. If the intake dose exceeds 6Gy 137Cs, it will be fatal. The 137Cs that settles on the surface will cause external exposure to people and have a longer-lasting effect on the body. Cesium-137 is mainly derived from nuclear weapons tests such as atomic bombs and hydrogen bombs, radioactive waste liquid produced during nuclear weapons manufacturing, radioactive waste from nuclear reactors, and radioactive waste liquid from nuclear fuel reprocessing plants.
The cesium element itself is not a radioactive substance. The same is true for the cesium element in cesium tungsten bronze. Therefore, people should be assured that cesium tungsten bronze doesn't contain radioactive substances.
Cesium tungsten bronze has good near-infrared and ultraviolet light shielding properties, and is widely used in thermal insulation dispersions and then used in the production of glass coating and thermal insulation film.
