Ammonium Metatungstate Applied for Tungsten Carbide Catalyst

Ammonium metatungstate (AMT) is one of the most important raw materials and precursors for preparing tungsten carbide catalyst. The physical and chemical properties of AMT affect the structure and performance of the prepared tungsten carbide (WC). The particle size and structure of the precursor will have a greater impact on the later reduction carbonization process, which in turn will affect the catalytic activity of the tungsten carbide catalyst, according to the researchers.

Therefore, spray drying is usually used to prepare ammonium metatungstate in order to obtain precursors with good particle size and structure, the researchers added. The basic principle of this method is that after the solution, emulsion, suspension or paste-like substance is spray-dried, the water is quickly evaporated within a few seconds and transformed into a powdery, granular, or hollow or solid spherical products with more uniform physical and chemical properties. The AMT precursor prepared by this method has the characteristics of uniform particle distribution, small particle size and good degree of sphericity, so it is one of the industrialized processing routes.
