Tungsten alloy applied for military defense is tungsten heavy alloy that is 90% to 97% pure tungsten in a matrix of nickel and copper, or nickel and iron. Why these alloying elements are necessary? That is because pure tungsten is very difficult to machine or fabricate, addition of these elements improves both the ductility and machinability of the alloys while retaining its high density. These tungsten heavy alloys are ideal for high density applications where machining is required. That is because tungsten alloy has its own excellent characteristics, such as high density (the density of tungsten alloy is more than twice the density of steel); high strength (the strength of tungsten alloy can even reach above 1300MPa); good machinability; good thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion coefficient (the thermal conductivity of tungsten alloy is five times that of die steel, and the thermal expansion coefficient is only 1/2 - 1/3 of iron or steel); good weldability and surface electroplating; good plasticity; good corrosion resistance and high temperature oxidation resistance; etc.
