How to prepare tungsten needle by electrolytic method? The following materials are needed:

Tungsten wire blank: Tungsten wire blank having a diameter of 1mm, thin tungsten wire blank having a diameter of 0.32mm and a length of about 5cm.

Power supply: Two No. 1 batteries. After connecting the two batteries in series, two conductive copper wires are respectively welded to cathode and anode thereof. The anode is connected to tungsten wire to be processed, and the cathode is connected to a carbon rod (about 1cm in diameter, the length is selected to be able to insert into electrolyte).

Electrolyte: Dissolve 100 g of potassium hydroxide in 100 ml of three-distilled water to make a 13N KOH solution, and place it in a glass beaker.

Preparation of Tungsten Needle by Electrolytic Method

Put the tip of anode (tungsten wire) and cathode (carbon rod) into electrolyte, and circuit is switched on. Immediately, a large amount of bubbles overflow on carbon rod, and tungsten wire has debris falling off, indicating that electrolysis is in progress. Wherein, tungsten wire needs about 3 to 10 minutes for electrolysis, and thin tungsten wire needs about 1 minute for electrolysis. Time depends on current intensity. The depth of tip of tungsten wire immersed in electrolyte can be changed at any time during electrolysis process to adjust the sharpness of tip slope.
