How to Prepare Ultrafine W18O49 Nanowire?

Ultrafine W18O49 nanowire is prepared by WCl6 and triethylene glycol. During the preparation process, WCl6 is used as precursor, and triethylene glycol is used as solvent. This is an efficient and environmentally friendly preparation method.
Tungsten oxide is a versatile semiconductor material with wide band gap. It has a variety of crystal structures and there is a large number of non-stoichiometric oxide forms. Tungsten oxide is η-type semiconductor with significant electrochromic, photochromic, aerochromic and catalytic properties. It has high application value in flat panel displays, erasable optical devices, smart window materials, sensors and catalysts.
There are many methods for preparing one-dimensional nanomaterial of tungsten oxide, such as template method, organic solution synthesis and oxidation infrared heating method. Although the methods for preparing one-dimensional nanomaterial of tungsten oxide are many, there are shortcomings of small yield and complex process.
Here is a reproducible preparation method of ultrafine W18O49 nanowire as following as:
Step One: WCl6 is dissolved in triethylene glycol. Then the mixture is stirred magnetically to obtain blue WCl6 solution.
Step Two: The obtained WCl6 solution is transferred to the stainless-steel hydrothermal reactor stainless steel hydrothermal reactor. Then the reactor is sealed. Solvothermal reaction is conducted at 140-200°C for 5 hours. Then the reactor is cooled naturally.
Step Three: The obtained product in Step Two is centrifuged and then washed repeatedly by deionized water and anhydrous ethanol. It is dried in air at 90°C. And ultrafine W18O49 nanowire is successfully prepared.
The prepared W18O49 nanowire has a diameter of 0.6 nm. It can be widely used in gas-sensing materials, sensors, photodetectors and many other important fields. As for this kind of preparation method, it is not only simple but reproducible. In addition, it is environmentally friendly and high yield is its advantage. It is an efficient method of preparing ultrafine W18O49 nanowire.
