Tungsten disulfide coating is a continuous solid film coated by tungsten disulfide once. It is formed by spaying or blushing film-forming agent on the friction surface. And the film-forming agent is made from tungsten disulfide powder and organic binder or inorganic binder. Tungsten disulfide coating is regarded as the most promising solid lubrication coating.
Why is tungsten disulfide coating the most promising solid lubrication coating? It is closely connected with its performance.
1. Thin thickness of tungsten disulfide coating.
Tungsten disulfide coating has a thin thickness of 0.5μm. And it is very uniform. So tungsten disulfide has a good adsorption capacity on the surface of metal matrix. When the coating is applied to the friction surface of parts, it has little effect on them. Moreover, the coating has matrix permeability. It still has lubrication function when the surface of coating is damaged, which ensures its long service life.
2. Wide working temperature range of tungsten disulfide coating.
Under atmospheric pressure, WS2 operates at temperatures ranging from -273°C to 650°C. It can work in a vacuum environment at 1200°C without decomposition. Tungsten disulfide has good high temperature and extreme pressure resistance, suitable for the lubrication under bad working conditions such as high temperature, high pressure, vacuum, water and so on.
3. Good lubrication performance of tungsten disulfide.
The friction coefficient between WS2 coating and stainless steel is 0.03, which is one tenth of that between metals without coating. This effectively reduces the wear and energy loss of the base material, thus greatly improving the service lives of parts by 3 to 5 times. With the good lubrication performance, tungsten disulfide coating has a high application value in plastic industry. It can solve the problems of difficult demoulding, viscose and wire drawing. In addition, it can also replace demoulding agent to avoid secondary pollution of products.
