Flake Tungsten Disulfide Prepared by Solid State Method

Flake tungsten disulfide can be prepared by solid state method. Tungsten powder and sulfur powder (the mass ratio is 1:3) is mixed in vacuum at high temperature in the preparation process. It is a simple, stable and controllable preparation method.

Solid-state reaction is a preparation method of mixing two or more substances and making them react under certain thermodynamic conditions and atmospheric environment. It uses powder or mixed oxides as raw materials.

In the preparation process, with the optimum ratio of reactants and the optimum reaction temperature, the materials with uniform morphology can be prepared under vacuum condition or by the protection of inert gas.

Flake tungsten disulfide can be prepared by solid state method. The preparation process involves the following steps:

Step One: Tungsten powder and sulfur powder are weighed and the mass ratio of them is 1:3. The preparation involves the chemical reaction formula W+2S→WS2.

Step Two: The weighed powder is placed and sealed in the ball mill tank. And the air inside is extracted to make a vacuum. Or it can be filled with the inert gas nitrogen.

Step Three: The ball mill tank is put in the ball mill and the mixture mixed fully in it for 30 minutes. Considering the volatility of sulfur powder at high temperature, the amount of sulfur powder is more than that required by reaction formula, so as to ensure the full reaction of tungsten powder. In addition, because tungsten powder is prone to oxidation under aerobic environment, it is necessary to ensure that the ball mill tank is in a vacuum state or is filled with nitrogen.

Step Four: The mixed powder is put and sealed in a 5mL reactor, and then it is put into a heated furnace. The temperature of the heated furnace furnace is set at 750°C, and the heating rate is 10 C/min to the set temperature. Then the temperature is kept for 3 hours. When the heated furnace is cooled to room temperature, the reactor is taken out and tungsten disulfide is obtained.

Tungsten disulfide prepared by solid state method is flake. This is a simple and stable preparation method. And the preparation process can be controlled easily.
