The solid fatty acids derived from the active and plant oils are mainly composed of stearic acid and palmitic acid. The boiling points of the two acids are high and are not easy to be separated. The two acids are converted to methyl stearate and palmitic acid methyl ester to reduce their boiling points and be easy to separate and be used as products. Methyl stearate is used for surfactants, lubricants, plastic antioxidants, developing agents, and coolants. It is an important intermediate for fine chemical products and therefore has a wide range of development prospects and application values.
At present, the main synthesis method of synthesis of methyl stearate and methyl palmitate is concentrated sulfuric acid as a catalyst, but the concentrated sulfuric acid has serious corrosion to the equipment, the product is not easy to separate, the processing procedure is complex, and the wastewater will cause serious pollution to the environment. In addition, in the reaction process, the strong oxidation of concentrated sulfuric acid is easy to cause production. Therefore, it is necessary to find an environmentally friendly catalyst with good catalytic activity.
A new method for the synthesis of mixed palmitic acid methyl ester and stearic acid methyl ester with cerium phosphotungate catalyst is proposed. This method does not produce acid waste water and solid waste. It is a green synthesis process. The technical solution is as follows:
The mixture of palmitic acid and stearic acid extracted from vegetable oil by 27 g was added to the reaction kettle, and the content of palmitic acid and stearic acid was 58.04% and 41.96%, after adding 32 g anhydrous methanol and 2.2 g cerium phosphotungstate as catalyst for 4 hours reflux reaction, the unreacted methanol was recovered after the reaction was finished.
The mixed palmiic acid methyl ester and stearic acid methyl stearate were separated from the mixed methyl palmitate and stearate with methyl stearate and methyl stearate. The mixed palmitic acid methyl ester and methyl stearate were further separated from the mixed methyl palmitate and stearic acid methyl ester, and the conversion rate was 97.12%. The lower layer is solid phosphotungstate, solid phosphotungstate catalyst, dissolving and separating the solid phosphotungstate catalyst with 3.3 g deionized water, adding the pH value <1 of hydrochloric acid to remove the carbon products suspended in the cerium phosphotungstate solution. The cerium phosphotungstate solution is concentrated and crystallized to get the solid solid phosphotungstate 2.2 g, and the solid solid is obtained. Solid solid phosphotungstate is obtained. Solid solid phosphotungstate is obtained. Cerium phosphotungstate as a catalyst for the next esterification reaction can be recycled several times.
Cerium phosphotungstate as a catalyst has been used as a catalyst for the synthesis of cerium phosphotungstate catalyst in the synthesis of mixed palmiate acid methyl ester and methyl stearate. The conversion rate of the catalyst is 97%. This method is easy to realize industrial production.
