New Materials for Tungsten Carbide Mould

Recently, with the development of the production technology, some new materials for tungsten carbide mould have been developed. For example, WC一TaC一Co system tungsten carbide enable the tool to withstand greater working stress when added TaC. And the ultra-fine grain tungsten carbide has shown its superiority in the aspect of wear resistance, which is especially suitable for making wear resistant and impact resistant tools.

1, WC一TaC一Co System Tungsten Carbide
Adding TaC is a way to expand the scope of the tungsten carbide. When the content of TaC is higher (more than 5%), these alloys have high thermal hardness and low friction coefficient, which is suitable for hot working dies at different temperatures.
 
2, Ultra-Fine Grain Tungsten Carbide
The WC grain size of superfine crystal tungsten carbide is less than 0.5μm. And it has high strength, high hardness and high wear resistance, which can effectively solve the contradiction between hardness and strength of traditional tungsten carbide.
 
Ultra-fine grain tungsten carbide breaks through the limitation of the transverse fracture strength of the ordinary cemented carbide, which is far lower than the high-speed steel. With the technological progress of the manufacturing process, it can even reach the level of high speed steel. In a sense, superfine grain tungsten carbide can be applied to the dominant application field of high speed steel.
 
3, Steel Bond Tungsten Carbide
Steel bond tungsten carbide is a kind of hard alloy which uses steel as a binder and made of carbides for hard phase and made by powder metallurgy. The hard phase of steel bond tungsten carbide is mostly titanium carbide. Because its excellent performance between tool steel and cemented carbide and it can be machined, forged, and heat-treated, it is favored by the mold industry.
