Temple of doom for Dawson

Terry Temple became the first person to inflict defeat on Brian Dawson, in the Red Dragon Darts sponsored event, as the pair met for a second time in a stage final at this years Streamline Taxis York Open Darts Championship Ranking Events. Temple was 4-0 up in their last meeting only to lose out 5-4 to Dawson in Stage 3.
However it was Dawson, this time, who was within a leg of victory. Temple had included 17 and 180 for 19 darts against Dawson's 180 and 100 finish for 12 followed by 15, 18 and 18 to put the Yorkshire County player 4-2 up.
Despite Dawson hitting a 180 to leave 37 after 15 darts, Temple conjoured up legs of 16, 20 and 180 for 18 to take the match and Ranking Stage Five 5-4.
The Semi-final's oozed quality with Temple defeating fellow PDC Pro Tour player Darren Johnson (20) 4-2 in the first Semi-final with legs of 13, 19 and 14 darts whilst Dawson 3 x 15 and 13 darts beat PDC Pro Mark Lawrence (2 x 15) by the same margin.
York's Russ King (15 and 180 for 16) was very unfortunate to meet an inform Johnson in the 1/4 Finals as he went down 3-2 to legs of 15, 16 and 180 for 15. The other 1/4 Final results saw Temple beat Chris Gill 3-1, Dawson (18 and 19) beat Colin Hendry (21) 3-1 and Lawrence take a 3-0 win over Steve Kemp Snr.
Last 16 Results were as follows:
Tim Grice 2 King (2 x 180's in 19 and 20) 3, Johnson (17, 17 and 15) 3 Steve Vine 0, Gill 3 Bill Hague 2, Dave Copley (180 for 17 and 17) 2 Temple (14, 17 and 16) 3, Hendry (180 for 19) 3 Chris Thompson 1, Jonathan Crosland (16 and 19) 2 Dawson (17, 15 and 18) 3, Rich Lee 0 Kemp 3 and Lawrence (180 for 14) 3 Lutz Leutzsch 1.
Other legs of note in the earlier rounds were in Group One Russ King 2 x 21 and 16, Tim Grice 21, Darren Johnson 16, 18, 18, 18, 15 and 14 and Steve Vine 18.
Group Two had Bill Hague 16, Andy Jones 15, Neil Hart 14, 17 and 17, David Copley 14, 14 and 18 and Terry Temple 18, 16, 18 and 19 all in form.
Alex Render, Mark Lea and Trevor Day all had 17 darters in Group Three with Brian Dawson 20-18 and 19 and Martin Usher 20 adding to the tally.
Only two legs of note were recorded in Group Four which came from Mark Lawrence (18) and Lutz Leutzsch (14).
Chris Thompson (161) hit the highest checkout of the day closely followed by 113 from Andy Jones and 100 from Brian Dawson whilst further 180's were secured by Neil Hart (2), Tracey Marron, Russ King, Steve Vine, Darren Johnson and Brian Dawson.
Thirty-two players entered the fun Blind Pairs which followed the singles event and Temple made it a double delight when partnering Dave Kerr to win the final over Trevor Day and Ian Atkin.
Ranking Stage 6 takes place on Saturday 12th April 2014 at Huntington WMC in York with registration closing at 12.30pm for a 1pm start. Time permitting there will be a blind pairs organised onced the stage has been completed.
Other events coming up in April see York Darts Promotions at the King William in York on Wednesday 9th April (Register 8.15pm for 8.30pm start) for the M & M Darts Show Knockout 7 where the Winner and Runner-up qualify to play at an exhibition featuring Wayne Mardle and Peter Manley later in the month.
Wednesday 16th April we are at The Green Tree in York for the last M & M Darts Show Knockout. Registration closes 8.15pm for 8.30pm start.
