Owing to the weak demand and the increasing tungsten products prices in China, most of the Japanese customers are inactive in making deals. The tungsten market keeps quiet in Japan this week.

A major tungsten trader based in Japan noted that they have no plan to make deals from January to June. He revealed that they mainly keep producing on the long-term orders. The source said that they receive offers for APT at USD375-385/mtu from China, and some offers are even higher. However, they only could accept the prices at USD360-370/mtu or lower.

The source expressed that although the sales volume for car increases slightly in Japan, it is unlikely for the demand for tungsten products to recover obviously in the recent several months. Looking ahead, he said that they will watch the market for a while, and do not eager to make deals.

Vietnamese ferro-tungsten market is active.

As the major ferro-tungsten factories are out of production, the supply is tight in the ferro-tungsten market. The ferro-tungsten prices showed uptrend in the recent days.

A source from a major ferro-tungsten factory based in Vietnam expressed that they just resume production, but are not in full capacity now. The source noted that the prices for ferro-tungsten 75% increase to around USD48-49/kg W in the European market now, and some offers are even higher.

Furthermore, owing to the tight supply in the European market, it is expected that the prices will go up further in the near future.

It is revealed that their capacity is around 300 tons per month, and they do not intend to run in full capacity in a short time as the current raw materials prices are too high for production cost. They will mainly deal with the long-term orders, and watch the market for a while.

A ferro-tungsten trader based in Vietnam reported that they received more inquiries in the recent days. He expressed that the offers for ferro-tungsten 75% are at USD46/kg W in the local market, which increased slightly compared with those of last week.

The source noted that owing to the tight supply in the European ferro-tungsten market, the ferro-tungsten prices kept moving up in the recent one month. Looking ahead, he thinks that as the supply for ferro-tungsten will not recover in a short time, it is likely for the ferro-tungsten market keep uptrend in the coming days.
