Elk Creek American village is located in southeastern Nebraska only about 100 people, however, with the rapid development of the Canada Company to develop near a rare earth mine plan, rapid population growth will be in the future. Last week at the Vancouver NioCorp development company said, has been as rapid drilling $5500000 for core sample analysis, Elk Creek near the mining area. The ore mainly Nb, but most importantly, there are other rare earth elements. According to World-Herald, the mine's construction cost about $400000000. USA currently required NB all rely on imports, domestic no mines produce niobium. NioCorp CEO Mark Smith said, "if everything goes smoothly, is expected to the feasibility study report at the end of the year will be completed investment."
In the past ten years, niobium demand and prices are more substantial growth. Wear resistance of Nb has high heat resistance, so the pipeline must be nb. However, it also can increase the hardness of the steel, used in aviation, military field, therefore, Nb is USA government as a strategic metal. The use of basic niobium has so far not found alternatives.
The current global 92% NB by Brazil a private enterprise production, while about 95% of global rare earth from China, used in industrial fields of green technology, national defense system and consumer electronic products. At present in the China outside only two mines, one is Australia Reiner's Mount Weld mine, another is molybdenum company in California Mountain Pass. Niocorp expects Elk Creek mine will be put into operation in late 2016, 150-250 available jobs.
