Recently, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced that it will invest $ 3 million R & D funding for the development of low-temperature geothermal resources and support for key materials ( such as lithium , rare earth ) of domestic supply . By partnering with geothermal and mineral sector , DOE plans to expand clean, renewable geothermal geographic diversity , and not just confined to the traditional western region .
According to reports, over the past 10 years, there has been soaring use of lithium batteries is expected to 2017 , for the manufacture of lithium carbonate in the global annual demand will exceed 25 million tons, up 60 percent compared to now . With the growing demand to ensure a reliable supply of advanced manufacturing will be a key material for growing challenge . DOE thus trying to clean mining technology, to promote co-production of geothermal energy cost competitiveness. DOE will fund 10 feasibility studies and applied research projects.
