Beijing time on July 12 morning news, Apple has filed a patent application, the content is a kind of rare earth magnet coating method.
The patent application file name is "Unibody Magnet" (integrated magnet), the document pointed out that the standard rare earth magnets (for example made of neodymium magnets) coating and consumer electronic devices may not be compatible with the appearance.
Neodymium magnets is generally made of neodymium, boron and iron components, and therefore need coating, not only because such a magnet is very brittle, but also because iron is exposed to air oxidation. Standard neodymium coating there is a problem, that is not compatible with Apple's design aesthetic to achieve a harmonious effect. Document states: "So what we want is a magnet surface coating, this coating with the device's overall appearance, shape and feel to match."
Patent documents on how to use aluminum as the coating methods are described, including the use of "diamond saws and electrical discharge machining equipment" and other cutting tools for the modeling of neodymium magnets to become available for Apple's MacBook laptop and iPad tablet computer integrated aluminum enclosure specifications.
