Rare earth market update on June 25, 2025
The domestic rare earth prices are fluctuating within a reasonable range, with a balanced supply-demand dynamic leading to a somewhat stagnant negotiation atmosphere between buyers and sellers, resulting in a subdued trading mood.
Today, at 03:04 PM HKT on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, prices for neodymium oxide, praseodymium-neodymium metal, and terbium oxide are adjusted to approximately 452,000 yuan/ton, 547,000 yuan/ton, and 7,200 yuan/kg, respectively.
On the bullish side, the slow release of production capacity by some rare earth manufacturers, influenced by high production costs and relatively low current prices, is a factor. Additionally, with high overseas rare earth prices and strong market optimism, most suppliers are reluctant to significantly lower prices for bulk sales. On the bearish side, downstream users continue to show low enthusiasm for inquiries and purchases, and China’s export restrictions on rare earth products persist.
In related news, Chinese customs classifies rare earth permanent magnet materials into four statistical categories: quick-set permanent magnet sheets, neodymium-iron-boron magnetic powder, other neodymium-iron-boron alloys, and rare earth permanent magnets or items magnetized and prepared for permanent magnet production. Customs data shows that the cumulative export volume of rare earth permanent magnet materials in May 2025 was 1,744.50 tons, decreased by 42.92% month-on-month and decreased by 67.06% year-on-year. Specifically, quick-set permanent magnet sheet exports totaled 89,631 kg, decreased by 9.61% month-on-month and decreased by 55.39% year-on-year; neodymium-iron-boron magnetic powder exports reached 351,866 kg, increased by 18.67% month-on-month and increased by 28.63% year-on-year; other neodymium-iron-boron alloy exports were 64,532 kg, increased by 88.56% month-on-month and increased by 543.26% year-on-year; and exports of rare earth permanent magnets and magnetized items prepared for permanent magnet production totaled 1,238,471 kg, decreased by 52.85% month-on-month and decreased by 74.26% year-on-year.
