Rare earth market update on March 17, 2025
At the beginning of the week, the domestic rare earth market in China maintained a stable trend overall. With downstream users generally sticking to just-in-time procurement and the growth rate of spot supply in the market remaining moderate, product prices showed no significant changes.
Among them, the prices of praseodymium oxide, terbium oxide, and dysprosium oxide stabilized at approximately 464,000 yuan/ton, 6,650 yuan/kg, and 1,720,000 yuan/ton, respectively. According to China Tungsten Online, the main reasons for the difficulty in increasing downstream demand are the relatively high current prices of rare earth raw materials and limited liquidity.
According to information from the Baotou City Industry and Information Technology Bureau, in February 2025, among the eight key rare earth products monitored in Baotou City, prices all showed a month-on-month increase. Among them, cerium oxide recorded the highest month-on-month increase, with an average price of 8,563 yuan/ton, up by 674 yuan/ton or 8.5% from the previous month, and a year-on-year increase of 1,946 yuan/ton or 29.4%. Year-on-year, prices of six products rose, while two declined, with cerium oxide again showing the highest annual increase.
