Rare Earth Market - August 1, 2025

Rare earth market update on August 1, 2025

This week, the domestic rare earth market exhibited a mixed pattern of rises and falls. Amid the interplay of bullish and bearish factors, intense price negotiations between buyers and sellers continued, resulting in slow order growth.

In the light rare earth market, despite the current peak consumption season for rare earth permanent magnet materials, the prolonged rise in praseodymium-neodymium prices, coupled with significant increases, and the fact that some downstream enterprises have completed their procurement plans, have led to product prices stabilizing within a reasonable range. Since July, the price of praseodymium oxide has increased by approximately 17.24%, neodymium oxide by approximately 18.58%, praseodymium-neodymium oxide by approximately 19.10%, and praseodymium-neodymium metal by approximately 18.13%. In the medium and heavy rare earth market, with limited downstream demand and restricted supplier price concessions, terbium prices fluctuated upward, while dysprosium prices remained stable.

According to CTIA GROUP LTD, this week the price of praseodymium-neodymium oxide decreased by approximately 5,000 yuan per ton, a drop of 0.93%; praseodymium-neodymium metal increased by approximately 5,000 yuan per ton, a rise of 0.78%; terbium oxide increased by approximately 90 yuan per kilogram, a rise of 1.28%; dysprosium oxide decreased by approximately 10,000 yuan per ton, a drop of 0.60%; 55N neodymium-iron-boron blank prices increased by approximately 9 yuan per kilogram, a rise of 3.83%; and neodymium-iron-boron waste material (praseodymium-neodymium) prices remained unchanged from last week. This indicates that the prices of mainstream light and heavy rare earth products showed minimal change this week.

In terms of news, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, in July, the Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for the manufacturing sector was 49.3%, decreased by 0.4 percentage points from the previous month, indicating a slight decline in manufacturing sentiment. By enterprise size, the PMI for large enterprises was 50.3%, decreased by 0.9 percentage points from the previous month; the PMI for medium-sized enterprises was 49.5%, increased by 0.9 percentage points from the previous month; and the PMI for small enterprises was 46.4%, decreased by 0.9 percentage points from the previous month. From the perspective of classification indices, the production index was 50.5%, decreased by 0.5 percentage points from the previous month; the new orders index was 49.4%, decreased by 0.8 percentage points from the previous month; and the raw material inventory index was 47.7%, decreased by 0.3 percentage points from the previous month.
