Penetrators Making Materials - Tungsten Alloy

Armor Piercing is one of the most common shells, hardness of the material is based on the shape of the shells, together with the kinetic energy of the firing transmission, when in contact with the surface of a hard target penetration failure to achieve the effect. Power depends on the kinetic energy penetrator bombs hit the target when, and physical properties of the material itself shells. Bore projectile was launched in the role after the drug resistance and accelerated collide only by gravity, in order to make the projectile hit the target when there is still a greater speed, armor-piercing must be used in the design tends to reduce the resistance of shape.

High density tungsten alloy is a class-based tungsten (tungsten mass fraction is usually 8O% ~ 97%), and added Ni, Fe, Mn, Co, Cu, Mo, Cr and other elements of the alloy, the density of up to 16 .5 ~ 19.0g / cm3. High density tungsten alloy not only density, but also has a series of excellent properties such as high strength, high hardness, ductility, good machining properties, thermal expansion coefficient, thermal conductivity, anti-oxidation and anti-corrosion can be good solderability and good. These properties make it excellent in the field of cutting-edge technology, military and civilian industry has been widely used, for example, as rod kinetic energy penetrator bomb core material, the counterweight components, inertial element ray shielding materials.

With main battle tanks, armored ships and a variety of increasingly strengthening military fortifications on the armor-piercing performance higher and higher requirements. High density tungsten alloy rod kinetic energy penetrators, not only has good armor-piercing power, and compared with depleted uranium alloy penetrators with non-toxic, non-radioactive contamination, etc., are the main countries in the world penetrator material and equipment, as well as the future development of the main projectile direction.

Tungsten Dollar Fishing Sinkers

Tungsten dollar fishing sinkers also known as river fishing sinkers are best for river fishing because they plane up when retrieved and will avoid getting snagged when they are get back, but they do not hold the bottom well.

According to the two factors above, it is obvious that it is not a good idea to tungsten dollar fishing sinkers to be parts of rigs for sturgeon fishing, the reason is that these fish preferable for the fast water but the dollar sinkers are not fit to it. The fast current will constantly pick up and put down the coin sinkers.

For decades, lead is commonly used materials for the tungsten dollar fishing sinkers as it is easily machined. And the obvious advantage for the angler is its considerable weight for a given volume. One cubic foot of lead weighs 710 pounds while cast iron weighs only 470 pounds, copper 547 pounds, and silver 650 pounds. However, with the environment protection topic is becoming more and more serious, needing for environment-friendly material is urgency. Tungsten, with the properties of high density, about 30 percent higher than lead, and kindness to the environment stands out in the various alternatives. As a result, more hobbyists choose tungsten made sinkers when making fishing rig.

Uses of tungsten

In 1781, Carl Wilhelm Scheele discovered that a new acid could be made from a substance now called scheelite. Two years later, brothers José and Fausto Elhuyar isolated tungsten, and they are credited with discovering the element.

Tungsten naturally occurs in the minerals wolframite, scheelite, huebnertie and ferberite. China may have about 75 percent of the world's tungsten resources and other deposits are located in California, Colorado, South Korea, Bolivia, Russia and Portugal. The metal is typically obtained by reducing tungsten oxide with hydrogen or carbon.

Tungsten is very commonly used to make filaments for electric lamps, in electron and television tubes, and for metal evaporation work. It’s also applied to electrical contact points for automobile distributors; X-ray targets; windings and heating elements for electrical furnaces; and in several spacecraft and high-temperature applications. Alloys that make high-speed tool steels, such as Hastelloy and Stellite, contain tungsten.

The metal is useful for glass-to-metal seals. Its carbides, bronzes and disulfides are used in several applications including paints and as a lubricant. Calcium and magnesium tungstates are widely used in fluorescent lighting while other tungsten salts are used in the chemical and tanning industries.

Tungsten Scrap & Tungsten Alloy Scrap

Tungsten is another one of those metals that relies heavily on the recycling of tungsten scrap (W scrap) and tungsten alloy scrap (W Alloy scrap). With over 90% of the reserves outside the U.S. it is easy to see why Monico Alloys plays a vital role in the recycling of tungsten scrap and tungsten alloy scrap. The recycling of tungsten scrap and tungsten alloy scrap accounts for nearly 1/3 of the tungsten consumed in the U.S.

When talking about a high temperature scrap metal or a high temperature alloy scrap tungsten scrap and tungsten alloy scrap are at the top of the list. With a 3422 C melting temperature tungsten scrap and tungsten alloy scrap is only second to carbon. Such a high temperature scrap metal and high temperature alloy scrap, tungsten scrap and tungsten alloy scrap can be recycled by Monico Alloys to use in high temperature situations such as filaments in light bulbs as well as many other electronics. But tungsten scrap and tungsten alloy scrap can still be used when alloyed with other scrap metals to make superalloys. These tungsten scrap and tungsten alloy scrap superalloys are used to make transportation/machinery equipment and heat and radiation shielding.

Today there is a global trade in the buying and selling of high temperature scrap alloys in which Monico Alloys plays an active part. The forecasts are that the volume for both buyers and sellers will continue to increase.

Properties of tungsten

Tungsten comes from a Swedish term meaning "heavy stone." Tungsten's chemical symbol comes from its earlier name, wolfram. Wolfram comes from the mineral wolframite, in which it was discovered. Wolframite means "the devourer of tin" since the mineral interferes with the smelting of tin.

In its pure form, tungsten can be a steel-grey or whitish metal. It has the highest melting point of all metals and the highest tensile strength because it reaches temperatures above 3,002 F (1,650 C). Pure tungsten has many uses and can be cut, forged, spun, drawn and extruded. However, the impure metal is brittle difficult to work with. The metal is very resistant to corrosion but does oxidize quickly when exposed to air. Natural tungsten contains five stable isotopes and 21 other unstable isotopes are recognized.
