Before the First World War, pubs in the United Kingdom had dartboards made from solid blocks of wood, usually elm.[citation needed] They had to be soaked overnight to heal the holes made by the darts, and it was a messy business for the publican, although darts was a popular game. This changed when a company called Nodor, whose primary business was making modelling clay (which has no odour, hence the name Nodor), started producing clay dartboards in 1923.

You never see these around, but they are a lot of fun to throw with. They are made of lightweight wood shaft with turkey feather flights (no parts to replace). I have four sets and I ordered from Al's American Darts for using with their wooden dartboard. They weigh around 12 grams so they really aren't that much lighter than electronic darts. They work just fine with any bristle board.

A regulation board is 17 3⁄4 inches (451 mm)in diameter and is divided into 20 radial sections. Each section is separated with metal wire or a thin band of sheet metal. The best dartboards have the thinnest wire, so that the darts have less chance of hitting a wire and bouncing out.

Plastic Dartboard

Plastic dartboard, also known as soft dartboard. The material is hard plastic. Designed with a plurality of apertures onto the target with the darts, plastic tip darts are used. This is high security darts, but darts have worse feeling. It is lack of realism and easy to play darts off.

There are simple and electronic scoring. Electronic scoring type is higher price, the current penetration rate is low. Soft dart is slightly larger than the hard dartboard specifications.

The board is made of plastic facings with small holes. The holes slant out, allowing the plastic-tippeddarts to stick inside. When a dart strikes the board, the section makes contact with a metal plate,telling the computer where the player has thrown.

Electronic Dartboards

There are now two types of electronic dartboard around, the standard board with hundreds of holes in it and the new so called BristleTech board, which is similar to the standard bristle boards so you can use both steel tip darts and soft tips, and it still has the electronics to do all the scoring for you as well. This is truly the best of both worlds and is surely the way of the future.

The electronic dartboard have fine workmanship, and design beautiful, good quality and so. If you get to use whatever darts you like and the built in laser shows you where to throw from as well, fantastic! This is surely the ultimate standard board around for both schools of darters at the moment. Who knows, the electronic dart boards may be used in the big tournaments like the Las Vegas Classic before long.

It has good throwing feelings, healed holes, basically no trace. It, higher costs and a high-end dartboard, only has 18 inches.

Despite widespread belief that some dartboards are constructed using pig bristles, camel hair, or horse hair, there is no evidence that boards have ever been produced commercially from these materials.

Microwave Decomposition of Solid Crystalline APT and AMT

Microwave decomposition of solid crystalline ammonium paratungstate (APT) and ammonium metatungstate (AMT) was investigated. It was observed that APT and AMT interact with 2.45-GHz microwave radiation. Samples of ammonium paratungstate (20-50 g) were successfully converted into WO3-x (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.2). A wide variety of morphological parameters were found. The interaction of AMT with the 2.45-GHz microwave radiation resulted in the partial loss of crystalline water and the partial dissolution of the sample in the released water.
