China’s Tungsten Product Imports in January 2025

According to data compiled by China Tungsten Online from the General Administration of Customs, in January 2025, China’s imports of tungsten products (excluding carbide cutting tools and tungsten halogen lamps, hereinafter the same) totaled 1,326.25 tons. This represents a year-on-year decrease of 0.99% compared to January 2024 and a month-on-month decrease of 27.89% compared to December 2024. The import value amounted to RMB 167 million, reflecting a year-on-year decline of 4.25% and a month-on-month decline of 28.56%.

Of this total, in January 2025, China imported 988.47 tons of tungsten ores and concentrates, marking a year-on-year increase of 4.25% and a month-on-month decrease of 27.18%. Tungstic acid imports were 10.75 tons, with a month-on-month decrease of 55.57%. Tungsten trioxide imports amounted to 39 kilograms, showing a year-on-year decrease of 97.83% and a month-on-month decrease of 95.21%. Imports of other tungsten oxides and hydroxides, not elsewhere specified, reached 40.00 tons, surging by 7,999 times year-on-year and 3,635 times month-on-month. Tungsten hexafluoride imports were 42.10 tons, down 5.31% year-on-year and 11.04% month-on-month. Ammonium paratungstate imports totaled 5 kilograms, with a month-on-month drop of 99.99%. Sodium tungstate imports amounted to 236.94 tons, decreasing 22.74% year-on-year and 31.65% month-on-month. Tungsten carbide imports were 2,255 kilograms, reflecting a year-on-year decline of 78.74% and a month-on-month decline of 72.47%. Tungsten powder imports totaled 2,596 kilograms, down 51.97% year-on-year and 22.83% month-on-month. Unwrought tungsten, including bars and rods obtained simply by sintering, amounted to 6 kilograms, with a month-on-month decrease of 96.20%. Tungsten wire imports were 360 kilograms, declining 55.00% year-on-year and 5.76% month-on-month. Imports of tungsten bars, rods, profiles, plates, sheets, strips, and foils totaled 574 kilograms, showing a year-on-year increase of 374.38% and a month-on-month decrease of 23.97%.

In addition, in January 2025, China imported 53.43 tons of coated or plated carbide knives and cutting blades for metalworking machinery, representing a year-on-year decrease of 20.17% and a month-on-month decrease of 12.89%. Imports of other carbide knives and cutting blades for metalworking machinery amounted to 36.37 tons, down 24.64% year-on-year and 42.32% month-on-month.
