Tungsten Carbide Indexable Insert Application Status in China

Tungsten carbide indexable insert has been put into research since the 1950s in China, and until the 1960s, it then be put into used by only a few factories. After almost 20 years of development, it achieves relatively wide applications in the machinery industry around the country, but generally speaking, the application status is still not optimistic. There are about 3.6 million machine tools in China currently, with only about 5% actually using or partially using tungsten carbide indexable inserts.

In Henan province, there are over 460 Machinery and Electronics Hall owned enterprises, but only with less than 8% ones using tungsten carbide indexable inserts. Many enterprises using indexable inserts at the beginning tend to reuse welded cutting tools in the end. On a national scale, the promotion and application status is almost the same with that in Henan province.

Generally speaking, tungsten carbide indexable insert, though with increasing applications in China, is still less used by cutter users compared with other kinds of cutting tools. Due to its various kinds of advantages, it should be further promoted and applied.
