Tungsten Disulfide Applied in Bearing Lubrication

Tungsten disulfide will form a dense protective film of tungsten trioxide under high temperature, which plays a role of lubrication. Therefore, this kind of material is used in bearing lubrication to reduce the surface wear and improve the service life of bearing.

Bearing is easy to break down in the process of operation. Only by accurately judging the fault and analysing the causes can we find the right solution. The faults that frequently occur are as follow:

1. The temperature of bearing is too high.

Fault Judgment: When the mechanical equipment is running, a certain temperature is allowed at the position where the bearing is installed. When touching the shell of the equipment, it is normal to not feel hot. Otherwise, it indicates that the temperature of bearing is too high.

Causes Analysis:

(1) Low quality or deterioration of the lubricating material.

(2) Insufficient assembly clearance between the parts.

(3) Too heavy load.

(4) Broken rolling element of cage.

2. There is noise of bearing.

Fault Judgment: Slight noise is allowed during the operation of bearing. If the noise is too loud or there is abnormal crashing sound, the bearing may be broken.

Causes Analysis:

(1) Wear on the surfaces of inner ring and outer ring.

(2) Metal peeling off of the bearing.

(3) Insufficient lubrication.

(4) Worn bearing.

It can be seen that lubrication is the key to ensure the stable operation of bearing. Tungsten disulfide can provide good lubrication for bearing. It not only has good lubricating performance, but works stably under the condition of high temperature and heavy load, which is the working environment of bearing. At high temperature, this kind of material will form a dense protective film of tungsten trioxide, so as to reduce the surface wear effectively. The bearing with tungsten disulfide usually has a longer service life.
