Chinese Rare Earth Market Trend – November 27, 2024

The domestic Chinese rare earth market has been fluctuating within a narrow range. Although prices of many products were pushed up in the past two days due to stronger support from production costs and the closure of the China-Myanmar border, the overall market has not seen a significant recovery.

Specifically, prices for praseodymium-neodymium oxide increased by about ¥5,000 per ton, terbium oxide by approximately ¥150 per kilogram, and dysprosium alloy by around ¥20,000 per ton. However, due to persistent weak downstream demand and a lack of confidence in the short-term market outlook, some suppliers took advantage of the price rebound to sell off their stock, leading to a subsequent downward adjustment in raw material prices.

It is worth noting that, in the long term, the rare earth market is expected to warm up, for the following reasons:

China has increasingly focused on the rare earth industry, introducing a series of policies aimed at promoting the healthy and orderly development of the sector.

With rapid technological advancements and the rise of emerging industries, the application of rare earth elements is expected to expand across more fields, driving continuous growth in market demand.

Companies in the upstream and downstream of the rare earth supply chain should strengthen cooperation and collaboration, driving integration and optimization of the industry chain. This will enhance the overall competitiveness of the rare earth sector and promote its sustainable development.

News Update:

In the first three quarters of 2024, Baogang Group’s rare earth concentrate production (dry weight, REO = 50%) was 308,222 tons, with sales of 298,150.65 tons and an average selling price of ¥18,119.62 per ton. For fluorspar, production was 400,647 tons, sales were 566,763.12 tons, and the average selling price was ¥1,499.81 per ton.
