Rare earth market update on March 4, 2025
The overall price of rare earths in the domestic market has fluctuated within a narrow range.
With the intertwined influence of bullish and bearish factors, traders' sentiment towards entering the market for operations is mediocre, which in turn leads to a low level of market trading activity and a slow growth rate of orders. Today, the price of praseodymium oxide, erbium oxide, and dysprosium oxide are approximately 466,000 yuan per ton, 299,000 yuan per ton, and 1,720,000 yuan per ton respectively.
From the perspective of the supply side, firstly, rare earth mining and smelting enterprises have generally maintained normal production. However, with the persistently weak downstream demand, the spot supply of some products in the market appears slightly abundant. Secondly, the unstable situation in Myanmar has led to a low inventory of terbium-related products in the market, which has further caused the price of terbium-related products to soar continuously. Today, the price of terbium oxide has increased by approximately 100 yuan per kilogram.
From the perspective of the demand side, in the short term, downstream users have a low enthusiasm for inquiry and procurement, mostly adopting a cautious and wait-and-see attitude. However, in the long term, the development of emerging industries such as humanoid robots and low-altitude economy has led to a sharp increase in the demand for high-performance neodymium-iron-boron magnets, which is expected to drive an increase in the demand for rare earth raw materials.
According to the data from the National Bureau of Statistics, in February, the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for the manufacturing industry was 50.2%, an increase of 1.1 percentage points compared to the previous month, and the prosperity level of the manufacturing industry has significantly rebounded. Among them, the production index was 52.5%, an increase of 2.7 percentage points compared to the previous month; the new orders index was 51.1%, an increase of 1.9 percentage points compared to the previous month; and the raw material inventory index was 47.0%, a decrease of 0.7 percentage points compared to the previous month.
