Tungsten oxide based inorganic electrochromic film may be used to prepare a high-performance, low-cost electrochromic device for applying to energy-saving buildings to play the role of heat insulation in summer and heat preservation in winter. Experts said that the WO3 film can be prepared by an electrodeposition method, which solves the limitation of the hydrothermal method on the film substrate.

Experts deposited hydrated WO3 nanosheets prepared by a simple and environmentally friendly solution method on a conductive substrate to form a three-dimensional vertical structure hydrated WO3 nanosheet film. The film has a light modulation range of 65.9%, a coloring time and response time of 17s and 3.8s, respectively, and a coloring efficiency of 52.6cm2/C. This not only provides an electrochromic device with high performance and low cost, but also provides a new method for constructing a porous structural film, and the preparation method of such a vertical structure can be applied to a stretchable device in the future to prevent the film cracking during stretching.
