China Molybdenum Products Price Trends for August 2025

According to CTIA GROUP LTD, the price trend of molybdenum products in China for August 2025 showed an initial decline followed by a rise, with the end-of-month prices for most products higher than those at the beginning of the month.

In August, the price of molybdenum concentrate increased by approximately 220 yuan per ton-unit, a rise of 5.10%; the price of ferromolybdenum increased by about 12,000 yuan per ton, a rise of 4.32%; the price of molybdenum oxide increased by approximately 200 yuan per ton-unit, a rise of 4.51%; the price of sodium molybdate showed no significant change; the price of ammonium tetramolybdate increased by about 4,000 yuan per ton, a rise of 1.50%; the price of ammonium heptamolybdate increased by approximately 4,000 yuan per ton, a rise of 1.48%; the price of molybdenum powder increased by about 15 yuan per kilogram, a rise of 3.03%; and the price of molybdenum bars increased by approximately 10 yuan per kilogram, a rise of 1.98%.

In the first half of the month, influenced by the significant price surge at the end of July, downstream users exhibited strong resistance to high prices. For instance, as major buyers of ferromolybdenum, some steel companies paused procurement to avoid the risk of cost-benefit mismatches, leading to a decline in molybdenum prices. However, due to the difficulty in increasing spot supply of molybdenum raw materials and positive expectations for the future market, the extent of the price drop remained limited.

In the latter half of the month, prices of most products rose steadily, surpassing the July highs. This was mainly due to: first, after the price correction in the first half, downstream users’ enthusiasm for purchasing at lower prices increased; second, the rise in stainless steel prices provided motivation for steel companies to raise their bids for ferromolybdenum; third, stricter environmental policies, frequent extreme weather, and high production costs led to reduced output from some molybdenum manufacturers. By the end of the month, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and molybdenum powder were approximately 4,530 yuan per ton-unit, 290,000 yuan per ton, and 510 yuan per kilogram, respectively.

Average Prices of Molybdenum Products in August 2025

In August, the average prices of most molybdenum products in China increased both month-on-month and year-on-year. The average price of molybdenum concentrate was 4,358 yuan per ton-unit, increased by 9.09% month-on-month and increased by 19.07% year-on-year; the average price of ferromolybdenum was 279,762 yuan per ton, increased by 9.62% month-on-month and increased by 17.30% year-on-year; the average price of molybdenum oxide was 4,466 yuan per ton-unit, increased by 8.29% month-on-month and increased by 19.09% year-on-year; the average price of sodium molybdate was 199,190 yuan per ton, increased by 10.16% month-on-month and increased by 19.90% year-on-year; the average price of ammonium tetramolybdate was 263,905 yuan per ton, increased by 8.60% month-on-month and increased by 16.16% year-on-year; the average price of ammonium heptamolybdate was 267,905 yuan per ton, increased by 8.39% month-on-month and increased by 15.88% year-on-year; the average price of molybdenum powder was 494 yuan per kilogram, increased by 10.02% month-on-month and increased by 12.79% year-on-year; the average price of molybdenum bars was 497 yuan per kilogram, increased by 3.97% month-on-month and increased by 6.20% year-on-year.

From January to August, the prices of most molybdenum products in China increased year-on-year. The average price of molybdenum concentrate was 3,719 yuan per ton-unit, increased by 4.41% year-on-year; the average price of ferromolybdenum was 240,216 yuan per ton, increased by 3.13% year-on-year; the average price of molybdenum oxide was 3,825 yuan per ton-unit, increased by 4.62% year-on-year; the average price of sodium molybdate was 169,901 yuan per ton, increased by 2.54% year-on-year; the average price of ammonium tetramolybdate was 230,809 yuan per ton, increased by 2.55% year-on-year; the average price of ammonium heptamolybdate was 234,944 yuan per ton, increased by 2.70% year-on-year; the average price of molybdenum powder was 434 yuan per kilogram, decreased by approximately 1.36% year-on-year; the average price of molybdenum bars was 465 yuan per kilogram, decreased by approximately 0.43% year-on-year.
