Junior explorer Emu NL has explored tungsten (W) and gold (Au) mineralization during a recent drilling campaign on the Monte Cristo property at its flagship Badja gold project near Yalgoo, Western Australia.
During recent drilling, W intercepts included six meters of 0.18% W from 58 meters downhole and four meters of 0.14% W from 28 meters. Assay techniques for the drill samples included multi-element "pathfinder" testing, which Emu believes significantly underestimates the grade of W. Multi-element analysis is a less specific, all-inclusive assay that was used as an early exploration method to test for a range of different elements, often returning inaccurate values.
Specific elemental analysis of W is being conducted to determine the actual grade intercepted in recent drilling. Significantly, of the 27 RC holes that recently accessed the property, only 3 holes returned high W results associated with Au mineralization.
These grades compare favorably mineral resource grades at the nearby Mt Mulgine tungsten-molybdenum project, owned by Tungsten Mining NL, just 85 kilometers south of the Badja gold project. Mt Mulgine has a resource base of 207 million tonnes at 0.11% W, making it the largest inferred W resource in Australia.
Emu said recent results confirm Monte Cristo is a promising Au target as well as a W target. W's primary use is in cemented carbide, also known as hard metal, which has a hardness close to that of diamond, making it ideal for cutting applications and wear-resistant materials. Tungsten carbide is used primarily in the metalworking, mining, oil drilling, and construction industries. W and its alloys are also used in electrodes, light bulb filaments, wire, welding, and as components in the electrical, heating, and aerospace industries.
A complete set of soil sampling test results, including W, is still pending from Monte Cristo. This is an exciting discovery for Emu. W is a strategic mineral that is growing in importance globally. The company eagerly awaits assay results for specific tests on elemental W, which could be significantly higher than the reported results. The addition of high-grade tungsten provides significant value to the company's Monte Carlo gold deposit.
