Victoria releases more land for exploring gold, lithium and rare earths. According to the miningweekly.com, Australia's Victorian Minister for Resources Jaclyn Symes announced last Tuesday that it would open up more land in the North Central Victorian Goldfields to mining companies that could demonstrate a commitment of engaging with traditional owners and which would boost local employment.
The opening of land in the North Central Victorian Goldfields' ground will be subject to a competitive international tender. Since the success of Fosterville mine in Kirkland Lake Gold, this place has is set to produce four times as much high-grade gold this year as it did in 2016.
How to get along with traditional landowners will be part of the evaluation process and selection criteria for the first time for prospective companies. As a result, indigenous communities can assess the ability of bidding companies to develop relationships with traditional owners and work with consideration of cultural heritage.
Symes said, "Gold helped build Victoria's wealth and the industry remains integral to creating regional jobs. The North Central ground release will be a huge boost for this sector - attracting companies who are determined to work closely with regional communities and the traditional owners of the land they will explore."
The Mining Council of Australia welcomed Victorian government's initiative to open the land in the north-central region, with the president of the Victoria branch, James Sorahan, pointed out that Victorian mineral exploration investment was 102 million Australian dollars in the 2018/19 fiscal year, an increase of 213% over the past five years.
Sorahan said that Victorian mineral endowment into new investments and jobs could create more development opportunities for the state. Victoria produces gold, and Australia's only antimony mine in the state is also creating thousands of jobs for the region. There are a number of potential new projects in the pipeline across the state in mineral sands, rare earths, lithium, copper, and zinc.
