"Amata" is the Pride of Russian Tanks

"Amata" main battle tank is the Russian army's future new generation of main battle tanks, the code named T-14, officially unveiled in May 2015, will be put into mass production in 2018, and is expected to be a large number of equipment in 2020. As the only fourth generation of main battle tanks in the world, how good is the "Amata"  main battle tank?

According to media reports, the new "Amata" tracked armored platform combines all the major developments and innovations in the design and production of operational vehicles over the past ten years. In addition to the escalation of armored armour, the "Amata" main battle tank is equipped with a remote controlled unmanned turret with a new 125 millimeter 2A82-1M type gun with a 120 millimeter muzzle gun equipped with the world's best known artillery, the German "leopard" 2 main battle tanks. The firing accuracy of the 2A82-1M type smooth gun increased by 15%~20% and the firing intensity increased by 1.7 times.

In the future, the "Amata" main battle tank will also be equipped with a specially developed 152 millimeter artillery, which will be the most powerful artillery installed in the history of the main battle tanks, or even to launch a nuclear bomb. In addition to upgrading the artillery system, Russia has also provided an upgraded version of the tungsten alloy armor piercing projectile for the "Amata"  main battle tank.

As we all know, "125 caliber" is considered to be a large short board of the tank fire of the Soviet system. As the successor of the Soviet tank, Russia and China all need to limit the length of the tungsten alloy piercing cartridge to solve the problem of rapid ammunition filling. According to the data, the diameter of the barrel of Russian 2A82 is longer than that of the old 2A46M, and it has been improved in the use of chamber pressure. The automatic loading machine of the Amata tank adopts a new vertical layout of projectiles, and the length of the core is no longer limited by vehicle width and automatic loader. In combination, the Amata tank cannon can launch a longer and heavier tungsten alloy piercing projectile in the case of constant initial speed, that is, the automatic loader has no limit to the length of the core, and has the basis for the fire performance to exceed the T-90 tank.

In combat, when a projectile is fired at the speed of more than 1000 meters per second from the turret, the projectile through the projectile passes through the tank armor with a violent friction and melts the armor, and the projectile itself is broken when it passes through the armor. For the passenger in the car, it is simply the disaster of the ground. The high speed skipping armor fragments, the metal particles melted by high temperature caused by collision and friction, will instantly kill the commander and the gunner and the loading hand. The instruments and equipment in the vehicle will also be damaged in an instant. Nearly 1000 degrees of heat can also cause combustion in the vehicle. This type of speeding armor piercing projectile will hit the entire turret without any difficulty if it hits the seat. Because of this, the main battle tanks in most countries of the world are loaded with tungsten alloy armor piercing projectiles, and the design of the core length of the tungsten alloy armor piercing shell is an important performance parameter.

At present, Germany and China are the most powerful manufacturers of tungsten alloy penetrator in the world. Perhaps because of economic reasons, the level of the tungsten alloy piercing projectile for a period of time is poor. Russia has the world's most famous tanks and artillery, but no powerful tungsten alloy armor piercing. This short board may be changed in the forthcoming "amata" tank. For China, our tungsten alloy armor piercing projectile has been in the forefront of the world, but the design of tungsten alloy piercing projectile for 96 and 99 main battle tanks is also limited by the caliber of 125 artillery, and the artillery loading system no longer limits the design length of the WC armor piercing projectile. Our country will be an excellent reference. Maybe soon, our gunpowder experts can also develop more powerful artillery systems and tungsten alloy armor piercing shells.
