Chinese Rare Earth Prices - March 15, 2024

Chinese rare earth prices showed a mixed pattern of rises and falls in the week ended on Friday March 15, 2024. At the beginning of the week, prices of mainstream products continued the trend of fluctuating declines seen in the previous two weeks.

However, nearing the weekend, due to increased market inquiries, enhanced support from production costs, and the promising prospects of downstream rare earth industries, prices of praseodymium, neodymium, terbium, and holmium series products saw some increases. This week, the price of praseodymium-neodymium metal decreased from 435,000 yuan per ton to 425,000 yuan per ton, then rose again to 435,000 yuan per ton.

According to statistics from Chinatungsten Online, compared to last week, the prices of various rare earth oxides have changed as follows: the price of praseodymium-neodymium oxide decreased by about 4,000 yuan per ton, a decrease of 1.12%; the price of terbium oxide increased by about 50 yuan per kilogram, an increase of 0.93%; the price of dysprosium oxide decreased by about 10,000 yuan per ton, a decrease of 0.54%. Prices of praseodymium-neodymium metal, 55N neodymium iron boron blanks, and neodymium iron boron scrap (praseodymium-neodymium) remained stable compared to last week. Therefore, the prices of rare earth permanent magnet materials and their waste materials were relatively stable this week. Additionally, the decrease in rare earth raw material prices this week was narrower compared to the decreases seen in the previous one or two weeks.

In terms of news, in 2023, Iluka's operating income was 3.849 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 18.67%; the net profit attributable to shareholders was 86.7122 million yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 66.46%; the non-net profit was 126 million yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 40.91%; and the basic earnings per share was 0.0776 yuan.
