Global Reserve of Tungsten

Global reserve of tungsten is mainly in China, it is widely used in many industries around the world. Its global reserve is small with a low guarantee extent, many countries have included it in the strategic reserve list, making it a very prominent status.

More than 30 kinds of tungsten minerals and its-containing minerals have been found in nature, but the minerals with industrial value are only a few minerals such as wolframite and scheelite. The former is mainly CaWO4, while the latter is (Fe, Mn) WO4, also known as tungsten manganese iron ore.

In 2016, the world's proven reserves of tungsten metal are 3.143 million tons, and the production is 86,400 tons. According to the static computation in current consumption rate, global reserve of tungsten can meet the global demand for 36 years.

In recent years, due to the excessive exploitation of tungsten mines in China, the price of tungsten ore has been low, and some countries such as Russia, Canada and Australia have reduced the production. Canada's only production mine was shut down for maintenance at the end of 2015 due to low prices. China supplies 82% of global supply, with 60% of the world's reserves.

China is the country with the richest reserve of tungsten ore in the world. As of the end of 2017, the Chinese proven reserves of WO3 are 10.3042 million tons.

China's tungsten mines are widely distributed in 24 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions), but mainly distributed in 10 provinces (regions) such as Jiangxi, Hunan, Gansu, Yunnan, Guangxi, Fujian, Inner Mongolia, Guangdong and Henan, and their reserves account for 94.1% of the total national reserves, the sum of reserves of Jiangxi, Hunan and Gansu accounted for 70.47% of domestic total reserves.

Among these provinces, the one that bears the brunt is Jiangxi province. As early as 1907, the mine in Jiangxi was developed and utilized. After the end of World War I, the ore output in 30 mining areas in southern China was 68,001 tons. In the same year, the output of the United States was only 4,700 tons. Since this year, China's tungsten mine has leapt to "the world's largest production country."

In 2012, the world's largest tungsten deposit was discovered in Dahutang Jiangxi. On January 5th, 2016, the province discovered a large-scale tungsten-copper mine in Fuliang County with proven WO3 resources of 2.86 million tons, it has set a new world record. Today, Jiangxi's tungsten production accounts for about half of the country's total.

Tungsten is widely used in different industries and many countries attach great importance to it. The global supply is mainly concentrated in China, and primarily on Jiangxi Province located in the south of China.
