The reasons of tungsten contacts ablation of car distributor as follows:

3. Car engine running at low speed for a long time. If the car engine running at low speed for a long time, it will make tungsten contacts closure time prolonged due to the decreasing frequency of opening and closing, resulting in self-induced electromotive force of the primary winding increased and the primary current will also increased, eventually causing tungsten contacts ablation. To avoid the aforementioned phenomenon, tungsten contacts gap of distributor should be appropriately increased.

4. Bad capacitor work

The reason of bad capacitor work is that bad connection between housing and ground or bad internal connection.
Check method: adopting the method of disassembling capacitor to compare high voltage electrical spark.

When power-off tungsten contacts is disconnected, capacitor will absorb the surge voltage which is formed by the self-induced electromotive force of primary winding of the ignition coil to reduce spark discharge of tungsten contacts, so tungsten contacts can avoid being ablated , but also improve the rate of change of primary current, thereby enhancing the high-pressure spark.
