The causes of tungsten points’ ablation of car distributor can be seen as follows:

3. Car engine working at a low speed during a long period. In case the car engine working at a low speed during a long period, the closure time of tungsten points will prolonged resulting from the decreased frequency of opening and closing, and lead to the increase of  self-induced electromotive force of the primary winding and the primary current, eventually tungsten points will ablate. To avoid these phenomenons, you should increase the tungsten points’ gap of distributor appropriately.

4. Bad capacitor work

Bad internal connection or bad connection between housing and ground will lead to bad capacitor work.
Checking way: using the way of disassembling capacitor to in contrast of high voltage electrical spark.

When you disconnect the power-off tungsten points, capacitor will absorb the surge voltage which is formed by the self-induced electromotive force of primary winding of the ignition coil to reduce spark discharge of tungsten points, and to avoid tungsten points being ablated, furthermore, improving the rate change of primary current, therefore, improving the high-pressure spark.
