The reasons of tungsten contacts ablation of car distributor shown as follows:

5. The riveting of tungsten contacts of the distributor is loose or the bracket screw is loose. If the riveting of tungsten contacts of the distributor is loose, then the engine will fracture. And the engine’s exhaust pipes will shoot when the engine running at high speeds. The gap change of tungsten contacts is intense when the engine running at high speeds, sometimes large and sometimes small, which can cause low-voltage current that can not be cut off at some point, leading tungsten contact ablation eventually.

6. Tungsten contacts’ surface offset or skew. If the tungsten contacts’ surface offset or skew, then, it will lead to the increase of resistance. When the generator running at high speed, the primary current will reduce, high speed off the fire will occur. When test fire, flashover distance will be shortened. When the engine is working, it is the points that spark through, it will make the current focused, so that the temperature of the current through the point will rise, eventually leading to tungsten contact ablation.
