The causes of tungsten points’ ablation of car distributor can be read as follows:

5. The bracket screw or tungsten points’ riveting of the distributor is loose. If tungsten points’ riveting of the distributor is loose, then the engine will break. When the engine operates at high speeds, the exhaust pipes of the engine will shoot. And the gap tungsten contacts will change intensely, sometimes small and sometimes large, which can result in low-voltage current that can not be cut off at some point, and ultimately leading to tungsten points’ ablation.

The spark will flows through the points when the engine is operating, which will make the current centered, therefore, the temperature of the current flowing through the point will rise, bring about the result that tungsten points will ablate eventually.
