Cs0.33WO3, or cesium tungsten bronze, exhibits strong near-infrared absorption when dispersed as nano particles in production of a functional film. According to the experts, cesium tungsten bronze is one of the hexagonal tungsten bronzes (MxWO3) with the formula of CsxWO3. A dopant Cs occupies the regular vacant sites in the hexagonal lattice, and the occupation maximizes when Cs/W = 0.33. And the hexagonal crystal structure of CS0.33WO3 possesses the best solar control performance among the hexagonal tungsten bronzes.

Cesium tungsten bronze has been developed in 2004. It possesses lightly bluish tint, which is favored in markets. Standard usage amount of cesium tungsten bronze is little as about one-tenth as compared with those of ATO and ITO. And extremely high solar control performance exceeding those of ITO and LaB6 nanoparticles is realized with cesium tungsten bronze. Cesium tungsten bronze nanoparticles embedded in binder resins are generally stable for light and heat. However, a weak photochromic effect may be observed by a long-time radiation of strong UV light. An addition of UV absorbers, antioxidant agents or hindered amine light stabilizer can contribute to stabilizing a color and transmission of Cs0.33WO3 dispersed functional film.
