Experts have found that the seed layer and urea play a key role in hydrothermal growth. After pre-preparing a seed layer on the surface of the FTO by a sol-gel method, a hydrothermal reaction is carried out to obtain a porous structure film in which nanodisks are alternately arranged. When there is no seed layer, the prepared film is a flower-like structure composed of nanorods. When there is no urea in the hydrothermal reaction, the flower-like nanorod clusters cover almost the entire FTO surface. When urea is added to the hydrothermal reaction, the film grown without seed crystals is loose. And the surface of the film has a large amount of exposed FTO.
