Rings Sizing Methods

Jewelers use one of two methods to determine ring size, according to the Walker Metalsmiths website. In both cases the ring is slid down a marked, tapered sizing stick. The stick,sometimes called a sizing mandrel, corresponds to ring size. The mark corresponding to the point where the ring can't slide down the mandrel any farther is the ring size. In the true diameter method, this mark is where the wider side of the taper meets the edge of the ring.

In the center line method, the line in the center of the ring is considered the ring size.The true diameter method works better for wider men's rings, according to the website.
