Tungsten Alloy X-ray Collimator

Tungsten alloy X-ray collimator is a highprecision collimator for X-ray detectors, which absorbs scattered radiation and thus helps ensure an extremely high image quality. W (tungsten alloy) is better suited for this task than any other element in the periodic table as it has high density and excellent X-ray absorption capability.

Collimators can be made from exceptionally tungsten alloy flat foils in a thickness range of 20 to 200 μm. And such collimators excel through their outstandingly precise alignment and guarantee high resolution images.

It is said that alongside the conventional rolling process for the foils used in the production of 1D collimators, researchers have developed a particularly efficient, near net shape manufacturing process. This is especially well suited for the production of very thin foils. In contrast to tape casting techniques, this process guarantees an extremely flat surface with only very low fluctuations in thickness. And the shape of collimator is given by using electro discharge machining (EDM), punching and laser cutting processes.
